From: jesus_is_lord To: List Member Subject: Apocrypha, popery, and help Date: Friday, August 04, 2000 3:35 PM jesus_is_lord Dear CHRISTIAN Friends: Greetings in the name of the ONLY wise God and Saviour Jesus Christ. A few tidbits. (1) In response to the last email I sent out, a papist sent me some apocrypha verses to support purgatory. The apocrypha is NOT the Bible. I've had friends write saying some Catholic told them, "Your Bible is missing books." That is a lie from the devil, don't believe it. We have an article on the apocrypha at http://www.jesus-is-lord.com/apocryph.htm (2) This is a request for help... Papists oftentimes deride the authority of the Bible by saying, "The Church (talking about popery) gave us the Bible, not the other way around." Now, anyone who knows a little history knows that the Catholic religion BURNED Bibles. BURNED translators. BURNED people who possessed Bibles. The Mother of Harlots and Abominations of the earth PROHIBITED Bible reading. The following from Way of Life-- "The Council of Trent (1545-1564) placed the Bible on its list of prohibited books, and forbade any person to read the Bible without a license from a Roman Catholic bishop or inquisitor. The Council added these words: 'That if any one shall dare to read or keep in his possession that book, without such a license, he shall not receive absolution till he has given it up to his ordinary.' "Rome's attempt to keep the Bible from men has continued to recent times. Pope Pius VII (1800-1823) denounced the Bible Society and expressed shock at the circulation of the Scriptures. Pius VII said, 'It is evidence from experience, that the holy Scriptures, when circulated in the vulgar tongue, have, through the temerity of men, produced more harm than benefit.' Pope Leo XII called the Protestant Bible the 'Gospel of the Devil' in an encyclical letter of 1824. Pope Gregory XVI (1831-1846) railed 'against the publication, distribution, reading, and possession of books of the holy Scriptures translated into the vulgar tongue.' Pope Leo XII, in January 1850, condemned the Bible Societies and admitted the fact that the distribution of Scripture has 'long been condemned by the holy chair.'" Back to tracy's comments--The Catholic religion came out with the Douay-Rheims when they couldn't stop the spread of the word of God. I have a whole lotta history books, videos, etc. but I haven't found time to write an article on where the Bible came from and how God preserved it IN SPITE of popery. Does anyone know of sound article that I can republish on this subject? Thanks for any help you can give me. (3) Bro. GB sent me an excellent quote by a papist that truly understands his religion. It is taken from, "The Spirit of Catholicism" by Karl Adam. I looked it up on the 'net and it is seems to be quite a popular book for papists-- "We Catholics acknowledge readily, without any shame -- nay with pride -- that Catholicism CANNOT be identified simply and wholly with primitive Christianity, nor even with the Gospel of Christ." -- Karl Adam, 1928. The Spirit of Catholicism, (New York: MacMillan), p. 2. 'nough said. for Jesus' sake, tracy -- http://www.jesus-is-lord.com ...I do send thee unto them; and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD. And thou, son of man, be not afraid of them, neither be afraid of their words, though briers and thorns be with thee, and thou dost dwell among scorpions: be not afraid of their words, nor be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.
