From: jesus_is_lord To: List Member Subject: Pacific Garden Mission Date: Thursday, November 04, 1999 6:38 AM jesus_is_lord [Reminder: This list is not for the hellbound. Get saved and it will be for you.] Dear Christian Friends: As any discerning Christian knows, we are in the last days. Our freedoms are quickly slipping away. Period. We know the time will come that Christians will not be able to buy or sell. We'll be killed. With this knowledge, I still forward for your prayerful consideration the following info on PGM, aka "the Old Lighthouse". This e-mail is not a forward of another e-mail (don't do much of that). This comes directly from me... * * * * * * For those who are not familiar with Pacific Garden Mission (PGM), they produce the radio show, "Unshackled!" which I've recommended to you in the past. The mission has been serving the gospel to homeless men, women, boys and girls since 1877--and they still use the olde Book (KJB) too. A WHOLE LOTTA PEOPLE HAVE GOTTEN SAVED THERE. Praise the Lord Jesus. PGM has many gospel services *nightly preaching and singing *a worldwide, radio show that even gets into closed Muslim countries with testimonies demonstrating the power of Jesus to save anybody *a door man compelling folks to come in to the kingdom *a Bible institute, *shelter where homeless people can stay at the mission indefinitely, *meals, *medical care, *dental care, *jobs, etc. All at no charge. PGM is doing a good work. Been faithful for 122 years--and that is what is required in stewards. On their website you can find out more about their history. http://www.pgm.org One thing that has always impressed me about "Unshackled!" is that I've never heard them beg for money on their radio program. In fact, I've never heard them mention anything about sending money. Yet, PGM receives no governmental funding, and refuses to do so--good for them! Too many ministries nowadays keep beggin' for money and I won't lie, it gets on my nerves. The workman is worthy of his hire but too many reapers want to be paid in dollars for the portion they do (which is their reasonable service), no matter how small--even some Christian webmasters want you to pay them to read their information. It doesn't cost much to run a website...I'll leave that one alone... Anyway, my husband and I are supporters of PGM and receive their newsletter. In it, I just found this disturbing note-- "PLEASE KEEP PRAYING! As reported in the October issue of this publication, the City of Chicago has given the Chicago Public School board a green light to pursue the purchase of the PGM property for an addition to the adjacent Jones High School. Please continue to pray that, if the Mission must sell, there will be a fair settlement and that God will show the PGM board of trustees where to relocate the ministry." PGM has been in their present location since 1922 -- 77 years and the government can attempt to boot them out of their very own property. How about every man under his OWN vine and under his OWN fig tree? In the end, the Lord Jesus will have His way. Doesn't matter if a man will hear or forbear, Jesus will have His way AND it will work to our good. All this said, I sent the following e-mail to the Mayor of Chicago and cc:'d the executive board members of Chicago Public Schools-- Dear Mayor Daley: I just received some very disturbing news and I want to express my concern to you... My name is Tracy and I am a financial supporter of the Pacific Garden Mission (PGM) in Chicago. PGM has faithfully served your city since 1877. They have abundantly ministered to the needs of society's forgotten--the homeless--all at no cost to the city. They offer food, clothing, shelter, counseling, medical AND dental care--all free of charge. In August of 1999 they had an average of 400 homeless people spending the night every night, they served over 50,000 plates of food, they gave medical treatment to over 500 people, a daily average of 547 homeless people received some type of aid from the mission, etc... PGM has been in its present location, 646 South State Street, since 1922 but now, according the October 1999 PGM newsletter, the City of Chicago has given the Chicago Public School board a green light to pursue the purchase of the PGM property for an addition to the adjacent Jones High School. PGM will not resist you, they are too gracious, but I'm sure that their building is paid for and having no mortgage allows them to minister even more services to the homeless. Why would Chicago put them out of the building they've occupied since 1922 and make them find new accommodations? PGM has been there helping your city for 77 years and this is the gratitude that your city shows for it? God forbid. Mr. Mayor, please have mercy and grace and look for other solutions to any space issues for Jones High School. Those young people would do well to visit the mission and learn more about social services from a tried and proven organization. To remove PGM would be to remove a Chicago landmark. Yours truly, Tracy If anybody else on this e-mail list is glad for the gospel witness of the "old lighthouse", you may contact ***Mayor Daley at MayorDaley@CityofChicago.org Webpage: http://www.ci.chi.il.us/ ***with a cc: to the school board members at-- gchico@cps.k12.il.us -- Gery J.
